Clive Barker's Undying

Saturated in Suspense!

Great atmosphere! The game sports graphics in the not too shabby for its time category, but the story and multiple villains that meet their demise at your hand is where this game truly shines! Lost Horizon 2

What're YOU Complaining About?

Everything works amazingly well in this game. Hats off to the game creators who dared to step into another field; creativity at times involves risk. The result in this game is SUCCESS! No bugs, very entertaining, mind-captivating, fluid experience. The puzzle aspect is very straightforward and rewards common sense. What's not to like about traversing several environments in different areas of the globe in an Indiana-stylish sort of way, experiencing all this through a father/daughter relationship (which in games is a rarity) travelling through time to change aspects in order to save those you love? https://youtu.be/Ex8w7QCv8QA Highlight the above with your cursor, Control C, open your browser, Control V, hit Return/Enter, enjoy!

Downfall: Redux

The Voice Acting is Incredibly Well Done

If these characters came across as normal, the game would miss the point. Let me remind you, even The Cat Lady isn't all there. The graphics also fit well with the crazy atmosphere. Animations as well. This is Grade A material. Very well done! If you can't identify with the characters, good! That's the way it should be! If you can there's something dreadfully wrong with you! They are abnormal in their emotional responses and actions for a reason; they're crazy! Monotone when they should be excited. Overly excited when you'd think their response should be normal. The vocal directing is done extremely well! An amazing story! Way out there! Another pure gold hit from Michalski! https://youtu.be/hIO6ifcgbeM Highlight the above with your cursor. Do CTRL-C. Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse

Golden! Polished to the Extreme!

Although I think it's putting itself out there as being historical, it's anything but. What it may do is get some old theological heads turning; some probably twirling 360 degrees as though possessed! https://youtu.be/eCxGkupACzk Highlight the above using your mouse and cursor; Press Control+C Then open your browser; put your cursor in the browser; Press Control+V Hit Return... ...and enjoy!

The Suffering

It'll Get You Rattled

Full of little tweaks and nuances that'll get you rattled. Golden when it comes to figuring out how to get from one locale to another. It always has to do with some cool chain of events. https://youtu.be/YAsWCSvgMd4

The Dig®

The Inspiration for Armageddon?

The way this game starts off I almost felt like I was playing a scene from the highest grossing world-wide movie of 1998, Armageddon! Maybe one of the writers of that movie played this game or sat down for a coffee with Steven Spielberg, of whom the concept for The Dig seems to have come from, if you take note of the opening credits. The first LucasArts game I've ever played that was serious yet still had that "chuckle dry humour". Some of the puzzles took me forever to figure out, but all of them fit within the story, which is Golden because of the way it abruptly changes course as soon as you start thinking you know the direction it's heading. A BIG thumbs up for the fact that there is no punishment for the choices you make...one ending, two ways to get there! https://youtu.be/0DOU8aWdARU

RiME

There's A Difference...

...between hurriedly playing a game to get out a "first" review dissing it because you HAD to play it too fast to really catch its wonder, and playing a game just to enjoy it ending up liking it so much you just have to SHOUT it out to anyone willing to listen! Well let me give a HUGE shout out for RiMe! Beautiful graphically and deep in story; jaw-dropping artistically; a tear-jerker when you finally grasp what's going on, first depicted by the little fox that helps you. They didn't record a sound byte and use the same one over and over again, in fact, the attention to detail is beyond any other game I have so far played, and by that I mean, although your character only yells and speaks softly under his breath, each yell is different, each soft vocal sound is different, every partial "revealing" hum is different. He places his hands and moves them on a ball when he's rolling it the EXACT same way ANYONE with hands would. The graphic representation of his stumbling, tripping, falling, running into ledges that immediately knock him down, are done so realistically you'd think you're watching a YouTube video ascribed to humorous moments of such! The locations are seeped in wonder abetted by the music, and the game is full of new ideas on how to progress an adventure without making it seem as if you're just going from one location to another. If you watch for clues you'll never get lost. The puzzles are reticent yet readily solvable if you just look and listen. I have not encountered RiMe's uniqueness of discovering and then solving puzzles kept in context with the game's story in such an enjoyable way in ANY other game. The "cut scenes" are integrated into game-play so well you NEVER feel like you're just an observer. When I finished I felt as though I had just taken part in a well choreographed dance video intent on evoking an emotional response! https://youtu.be/5waYfJk_82k

DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition

At First I Didn't Like...

...the character renditions. Then as the game progressed I felt they fit perfectly. You see, when a person gains power, climbs to stardom, or earns riches, some people, not all, start to think they're better than others, forgetting that when it comes to relieving oneself, we all sit on a pot. It may be porcelain, silver, or even gold, but we all take that position of humility in order to make our personal deposit. That's what the humbly drawn characters in Distraint represent to me. Whether the head of a corporation, a servant of that corporation, or even a victim of that corporation, regardless, all three MUST squat. So the character renditions fit perfectly to what Jesse Makkonen is drawing our attention to. Without the illusion that surrounds those who are "successful", we ALL sit on a pot, and one day, we ALL pay the piper. Puzzles are cleverly designed. Clues are provided, but if you hurriedly overlook them, you could spend a great deal of time progressing through the game. A great game that you can sit down and complete in an afternoon! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so a video must be worth much more! Please check out my 5 minute video... https://youtu.be/Bk3lBEAisqo Thanks for reading this review!

LOOM™

Loom Is A Hybrid!

Yes, it's mainly a point-and-click adventure, but in its own way it throws in some role-playing elements that are so subtle it surprises you! You see, all spells carried out by your character are done by his staff through musical notes. So as you complete tasks, experiment, sometimes on your own without help from in-game characters, and come up with a combination of notes that create a new spell, notes are added to your staff, sort of like levelling up, gaining better attributes, as in a traditional role-playing game! On the graphic side, the adventure is captivating, almost mesmerizing, when combined with the whole idea behind the game. There is humor, although somewhat macabre. Loom is just downright fun to play! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I imagine a video to be worth much more. Dragonsphere

1994, the year of Microprose's last...

...adventure game, a point and click production entitled DragonSphere. At its release the graphics were considered high quality, and the game itself has become a cult classic for many. Treat yourself to an incredible story that truly mystifies from beginning to end, with enough twists to severely cause your adventuring skills to hemmorage! I mean, you don't realize this till later, but right from the start the writers have you fooled. Now don't go guessing at what might be going on before playing this adventure from what you just read, because you'll never figure it out till later; much later in fact. While in-game you don't have to save, EVER, because if and when you die, and yes, you will, the game restarts you right at the point of death, so having learned you can try something different! Take that Dark Souls like games that take an eternity to finish yet have only 20 minutes of story but seem long because you die having to play the same content agonizingly over and over. Not so here! THIS GAME quickly auto-saves and has you back exactly where you died before you can blink an eye! The puzzles really make sense, there's A LOT of them, and they are intricately planned. You may need four or five items in your inventory just for one solution. If you're missing something, an NPC will usually give a verbal clue to guide you to what you are missing! Incredible way of helping without giving the complete solution away. Also, you need not fear EVER of reaching a DEAD END where because you forgot something you have to start over. Ain't gonna happen. All areas remain accessible, so whatever you need can be backtracked to obtain it. Love that aspect! So give this game a try! DragonSphere is worth your play time! Help King Callahach save the kingdom! A picture is worth a thousand words, therefore a video must be worth much more.
